Community Service

Community service could be regarded as one of the most exciting experiences that I had in a very long time. Each day we had to go on a two hour drive towards the south to go to a foundation of Carulla, aeioTu. By the time we arrived, we all went into the gates of the school where a woman greeted us into their school. Many children could be seen playing on the fields, and children eating inside the cafeteria looked like they were enjoying themselves everyday.

On the first day I arrived there, I had to work with documents for the children with two new students I met; Carlos and Gabriela. We had to spend 3 hours each day as we organized files that belonged to children who were recently accepted into the school. The following days were also days in which I had to work with some other students to organize files for an entire 3 hours; it really wasn't much fun. Thursday, was the time of freedom with me being separated from the documenting group to join the "in-class," activity time with my good friend Eric. I even met some news employees from aeioTu who wanted to go to South Korea for some weird reason, and I swear that I heard the word "comida." However, the most exciting day for me was Friday in which I helped a kid go to the bathroom to take a number 2, and even freed a kid who was trapped inside a bathroom stall. I even had to go into a room full of kids with a teacher who spoke little English to spend the whole day with them. I had to help kids wash their hands before they went to the cafeteria to eat a few sausages and drink some milk, and then I had to help them brush their teeth by putting toothpaste on everyone's toothpaste, and I even had to set up a screen for the children to watch a movie.

The overall experience at the school was very fun and exciting to be honest to meet new children which I could play with. Also, the fact that I met new students which I became friends with was very nice because it never hurts to not know someone.
